"I'm obviously hugely inspired by how my mum wore clothes, and my dad but for me, it was more their attitudes. The way he would wear a bespoke suit and beard. The way she would wear a little YSL jacket with a straw vintage dress underneath. It was the attitude behind it, that I'm-going-to-do-it-my-way, I'm-allowed-to-do-this, fuck-it mentality."
"But, in reality, every family has to do what they feel they're called to do. We're not out there telling people this is the way everybody else needs to live, because by all means, this is not for everyone. God wouldn't give everybody 19 children. That's just not the way it's gonna happen, and maybe one or two is the number for someone else, or maybe God doesn't allow any children in a family."
"It's hard to judge the way people will react to things. The title Youthanasia was more of a play on words than anything else. It's far from the first time we've done something like that. But you can't read anything into it. The fact that we had a cover with babies strung on a clothesline with the title Youthanasia above it caused some misguided people to assume we were making some grand political statement about abortion, or something like that ... It's just not so. In fact, this is the least political album we're ever done. People can read what they want into anything we do but, unfortunately, most of the time their interpretations are totally incorrect."
"If you can't be kind, at least be vague."
